272. Buca
Last Sunday we went to Buca for my sister's belated birthday dinner. It's an authentic Italian restaurant, said to be one of the best in Toronto (rated #2).
Overall I really enjoyed it. The service was excellent (our server was patient in explaining what everything was) and the food was delicious. The menu changes daily and they have a lot of unique dishes like bison pizza, pig's ears, pork blood pasta, numerous different breads, cheese, chacuterie, etc.
I loved the decor in there as well - sort of like an industrial style loft. They have a bright and airy section that seems a bit more casual and another that's more dim and romantic. Plus an outdoor patio. So pretty much good for any occasion!
Appetizer: Nodini - warm bread knots with olive oil, rosemary, sea salt and garlic. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. I really loved these.
My pasta: fusilli with fennel soffritto, green tomato and golden delicious apple sauce, spot prawns, and toasted focaccia. It had a very interesting flavour..tasted a little bit citrus-y.
As you can see, the portion is quite small. Probably a bit too small for costing $26 but it was good.
My sister got the gnocchi (I don't have a description for what was in this as the menu's not posted online). Also a bit pricey for what you get. I tried a bit and really liked it..it's a lot "lighter" than usual gnocchi.
My mom ordered this. Thin crust tuna pizza/flatbread..this was one of my favourites. It was a little bit spicy but the perfect amount of crispy-ness. If I come back I will definitely order a pizza again (and I rarely eat pizza). You cut it yourself with the large pair of scissors that come with it. It's pretty big so you can share it between two people.
Dessert time! I got the tiramisu.
Affogato. This wasn't on the menu but they made it for my sister.

This looks like the kind of restaurant that I would love to try. The food looks delicious. The portions seem small but that's good because it leaves room for dessert. Happy birthday to your sister!
ReplyDeleteHoly crap. You are so being no fair by posting these epic food pictures. I cannot even handle how good everything looks. Literally, I'm pretty sure I just drooled on myself.
ReplyDeleteNo. 100% certain.
warm bread knots!?! I know what I want my last meal to be now. How did you not have like, I dunno, 50,000 of those?! hahah
And you're right, the industrial loft design style is great . Love the exposed brick. Really rustically classy.
