276. Paris | 13 random shots
I was in Paris for about a week in June. Just like every other city I visited, I didn't bother with directions at all. I found it more fun to just wander the city and get lost, then hop in a cab when I got tired (or when I got more lost than I wanted to be).
One thing I learned about Paris - don't rely solely on cabs! Is it just me or does Paris seem to have a shortage of them?!
I seem to be talking a lot about cabs in my travel posts lately hahah
After dropping off my luggage at the hotel, I went for a walk. I stayed in the 6th arrondissement; one of my favourite areas. I was near St.-Germain-des-Pres so I walked past Cafe de Flore and Deux Magots (& crossed them off my checklist) then made it to the Louvre and Tuileries. From there, I wanted to go to the Eiffel Tower by a cab since I was already exhausted. I figured I should just walk in any direction and one will come by soon. None did.
I even went by an embassy (?) to ask one of the guards for directions. He was very nice but didn't speak a word of English. So I kept walking as it got darker and darker. I wandered into little deserted streets..I'll admit at that point I got a bit scared. I just kept looking up at the top of the Eiffel Tower and walking in the general direction.
Finally made it! Seeing the Eiffel Tower is always so magical. But after all the walking I was too tired, hungry and in desperate need of a washroom. Found a cab, got back to my hotel for room service dinner, and skimmed over a map of the city just in case I got hopelessly lost again.
A delicious meal. The restaurant was empty except for the owner/server and a couple in the corner showing excessive amounts of PDA. I remember the guy had a Goyard briefcase and the owner looked like Coco Chanel. She looked about 70, was wearing a little black dress, a string of pearls, and looked like the epitome of a chic French woman.
One of the many nutella crepes I had. The Tuileries Garden is one of my favourite places in Paris. I came here once or twice every day. That's one of the reasons why I love travelling alone - to be able to go at my own pace and re-visit a place for as many times as I wanted.

Me too, I'm craving one now! I miss those crepes so much
DeleteYou have so many good arguments about why is it good to travel alone and you're so right - I've never even though about most of them. For an example like the fact that you get to visit same place as many times as you want. I always find that a problem with other people, usually they don' want to go to the same place for lunch every time.
ReplyDeleteAnd i totally agree with you when it comes to cabs in Paris! Definitely isn't like New York (where actually cabs are almost always full of people anyway...) or Toronto where you can grab one so easily
yea, usually if I like a place I want to go back many times. I think a lot of people want to see as many different places as possible when they travel..I prefer to see less so I can spend more time at the places I like the most
DeleteToronto is so easy to get a cab lol sometimes they drive by and ask if I need a ride. But it was a nice surprise when I found out cabs in Paris were cheaper than here at least!
Beautiful pictures! :)
ReplyDeleteTake care, Daniella xox

ReplyDeleteGreat photos nomnomnom!! Hearing about the place with the couple and their excessive PDA is LOL. and i can just imagine that owner lady in your description! EPITOME OF FRENCH LADY CHIC FOR SUREEE!
that's exactly what I was afraid of!! Once again I felt so lucky to get out of that one alive hahah
DeleteI'm usually so horrible with faces but I still vividly remember how that woman looked..I was thinking "I want to be like that when I'm older"

When I was in Paris, I was so afraid to walk around at night since I was alone! You're so brave. I got picked up IN BROAD DAY LIGHT by strange men, ugh it was so disgusting. I was walking around the Eiffel Tower and some guy followed me around. And even at Sacre Couer!!! I was so turned off, it's such a shame.
ReplyDeleteI still like Paris but maybe next time I'll bring a guy with me ;) I love love Sacre Couer, it's my fave place in Paris!!
I found Paris the easiest place to meet men lol..even though most were strange, I met quite a few really nice ones too! the most annoying was one who followed me around Pere Lachaise cemetery..so much for a nice peaceful walk
DeleteOMG these photos are beautiful, I love how you capture the Eiffel tower up close. And the pad locks and fountains are remarkable dear. you capture it perfectly. Love every single shot

As a girl dreaming of Paris, I'd like to visit Tuileries first of all:D Tour Eiffel is such a cliche!

Gorgeous photos! My favorite is the one of the fountain (shame on me I can't remember the name of it at the moment =()I remember my bf telling me he and his friends waited at a taxi stop for at least 30mins before they actually got one, the subway is so much easier to use but my gosh, the smell hahahahahahaha and I always forget to push the button for the door to open, I actually stood there for a good while until a polite french men and my bf pushed the button for me lol
ReplyDeleteI've never traveled alone before though you make me think about it lots! I think the reason is probably because my bf never cares what we're doing on vacation. Though I'm grateful for that it can sometimes be frustrating. What do you wanna do babe? Eh, anything is fine -.-
P.S I love the photo you put up on fb of Cappadocia! It reminded me of how badly I want to go to Turkey (and always did last year grrrr need to make up for that pronto!)
they're at Place de la Concorde..I forgot the name of the fountains too!
Deleteyea their subways are so dirty! but I had a lot of fun taking them. Some stations were annoying though because you'd have to walk forever just to switch trains..
I didn't know the doors didn't open automatically either at first lol
I think travelling with a BF can be fun too..but if you're single it's great to go alone ;] hahah that's good - at least he agreed to go to Laduree a lot with you!
same! so many places to go!
Great pics Tiffany. You'll have to check out my Paris posts.. I think I have a similar crepe picture :)
