746. Azores Day 3 | Arruda Pineapple Plantation

Yesterday we visited Ananases Augusto Arruda, a popular pineapple plantation at Ponta Delgada. It was a really beautiful space there (this building above is the washrooms). The pineapples are all grown in greenhouses to mimic a tropical environment and each take 2 years to grow from flower to fruit.

The plantation has a lot of greenhouses with pineapples growing at different stages, where you can tour around yourself. Admission is free. Then they have a gift shop and a garden for you to enjoy pineapple drinks (pineapple juice, pineapple mojito, pina colada, pineapple liquer, etc.) and food (pineapple chunks, pineapple cake, pineapple ice cream, etc.). The pineapples grown here on the island are very sweet with an intense flavour.
